Counselor Karen Margrethe Ali
Experienced Counselor and Therapist
Trained In Norway
17 years experience from Norway working for the government and private organizations as a counselor.
I am now offering person to person counseling sessions here in Dhaka. My qualifications are based on 15 years residential experience in Bangladesh; Integration through marriage, raising 5 children as well as working experience within the NGO sectors.
What is new this year is that from February 2024, in addition to provide regular therapy sessions, I will be providing SINGLE SESSION THERAPY sessions for persons who may need only one session.
This will be a 90 minutes session designed to give information and guidance to persons who would like to receive sufficient information and understanding regarding what participating in therapy will be about for them. In this way, they can make a decision regarding considering additional participation or not. To participate in a Single Session Therapy, may also be sufficient as a guidance to solve a temporarily problem, or to tackle a specific situation that has suddenly occurred. The therapy will include some concrete advice and some suggestion regarding how to independently deal with the problem, as well as how to understand it better and how to solve it. I will be happy to respond to any inquiries regarding counselling

"I am a muslim gay woman from Pakistan living in Norway. I have known that I was gay since I was 12 years old. Some years ago I was admitted to a mental hospital in Norway, as I got mentally sick by having to deal with being muslim, gay, and coming from a religious family where homosexuality is not accepted at all. Later on, my family convinced me to marry a religious Pakistani man, but my marriage lasted for a very short time. After my divorce, I came in contact with Karen. I realized that she is a religious muslim, but has a non judgemental attitude. Finally I got the courage to tell another muslim about my sexual orientation as well as my relations with other gay women. To my surprise, she was focusing on me, my comfort and my own happiness, so when I told her about my dreams about finding a same sex partner, she supported that! This meant so much for me to be met and accepted for who I am by another muslim. I am still in contact with Karen, and if I find a partner, I would definitely want Karen to meet her."
